Planting your Moon- Ancient ritual of offering your blood back to the Earth 🩸

It’s time to talk about something that has been forgotten for too long – the act of planting the Moon. Our ancestors knew the power of menstrual blood and used it for rituals and offerings to honor the Sacred Feminine. But, sadly, patriarchy led to shame and disgust surrounding this cycle, causing us to distance ourselves from our own bodies.

Planting your moon – blood ritual

In the past, menstruation was seen as a powerful and sacred part of life – but with the rise of patriarchy, it became something to be ashamed of. Fortunately, we are now rediscovering the ancient wisdom of matriarchal civilizations and learning to embrace our menstrual blood once again.

So, what is planting the Moon?

It’s simply the act of returning your menstrual blood to the earth. This can be done by watering your plants with a mixture of menstrual blood and water, or by using it as a natural fertilizer in your garden. By doing this, you are giving back to the earth and honouring the natural cycles of life.

By planting your menstrual blood, you can return vital nutrients to the earth and promote the growth and health of your plants. Menstrual blood contains everything that plants need to thrive, including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Plus, it’s an organic and sustainable material that can be used in place of harmful chemicals and fertilizers.

According to the Royal Horticultual Society (RHS), most fertilisers are based on the three major plant nutrients: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. And all three of these beauties are contained in blood.

Organic fertiliser can come from sources including fish blood and bone, bone meal or dried animal blood, so why not use the bounty of our lady gardens in our own gardens?

But it’s not just about the nutrients in menstrual blood – it’s also about the spiritual connection that comes with this practice. In many cultures, menstrual blood was used in rituals and offerings to the goddesses, the moon, and the sacred feminine. By planting the Moon, you can create your own ritual and connect with the energy of the earth and the element of water.

Ritual of our sacred moon blood

If you’re interested in trying this practice, here’s how to do it:

  • collect your menstrual blood in a menstrual cup or absorbent cloth, I keep mine in a little glass bottle in the back of my fridge until I have finished my bleed. (But you can offer you blood each time you empty your cup or change a pad.)
  • Important that mix it with water in a glass or clay container, and then water your plants or offer it to nature with this diluted mixture.

By reclaiming our menstrual blood and embracing our bodies’ natural cycles, we are sending a powerful message to patriarchy. We are saying that our bodies are not something to be ashamed of, but something to be celebrated. And this message is not just for those who have a uterus – it’s for everyone. Let’s rediscover the wisdom of our ancestors and honour the cycles of life.

But planting your moon is more than just a practical task. It’s a chance to connect with Mother Nature and rediscover our roots. By embracing our internal cycles and rejecting the shame imposed by society, we can empower ourselves and break down barriers. And this message is for everyone, not just those with a uterus.

So let’s join together in this collective movement to honor the Sacred Feminine and embrace the power of our bodies. Whether you create a mystical ritual or simply water your plants, let’s plant the Moon and reconnect with the earth.

Let’s plant the Moon and watch our gardens flourish. It’s time to make a change, and it starts with us.
